Troy started his career with Clemenger, BBDO before taking off to the US where he joined Las Vegas’ R&R Partners, famous for it's "What Happens In Vegas Stays In Vegas" campaign. In 1997 he moved to California and in two years graduated from the University of California, Berkeley Graphic Design program. Returning to Vegas in 2000, O'Brien joined The Merica Agency where in five years he rose to owner/partner. As Vice President / CD of Robertson Wood O'Brien he directed campaigns for Cox Communications, MGM Grand, The Howard Hughes Corporation's master planned community Summerlin, House of Blues, Sky Las Vegas and The Venetian to name just a few. In 2007 he left to start Troy Creative who's clients included MGM Mirage, Bellagio and Wynn Resort.

Troy returned to his hometown in 2011 and spent four years at The Kingdom Advertising. In 2015 he formed Welbourn O’Brien.

Troy's ability to link strategic insights to meaningful creative communications has lead to numerous local, national and international creative awards, including the prestigious Gold International ADDY Award. After 25 years in the industry, he is even more passionate about achieving effective work for his clients and believes without a doubt that his best work is still ahead of him.
